The yellow birch (Betula allegheniensis) is an important forest community species throughout the Appalachian Mountains. The lovely yellow-bronze peeling bark plays well with the golden yellow autumn leaves that are responsible for its common name. This one grows in Hocking State Forest in Southeast Ohio.
