A great blue heron strolls along a fissure in the lake ice searching for a meal. These magnificent birds are an excellent example of resilience in nature. They often overwinter in areas where the water freezes over. When it does, they switch tactics and hunt for small rodents and birds instead of the typical diet of fish and amphibians.
